It’s that time of the year again when bright colourful hues deck the streets and the spirit of unity and togetherness bond us with our near and dear ones. We’ve never really been a quiet bunch and the onset of festivities brings with it a near insane mood for celebration.
The first day of Holi, also known as Chhoti Holi or the day of Holika Dahan sees the symbolic lighting of the bonfire in the evening and setting effigies of Holika ablaze as a representation of triumph of good over evil.
Legend has it that the vicious Holika tricked her nephew Prahlad into sitting on a pyre with her as a way to get rid of him because the little boy refused to acknowledge his father, the notorious Hiranyakashyap as god. Things however took a U- turn when Holika’s fire proof cloak flew off her and the little boy was encased; thereby protecting him from the raging fire. It is believed the evil Holika perished in the fire and eventually even Hiranyakashyap was killed by a form of Vishnu called Narasimha.
The following day sees people ecstatically applying colour on one another and bonding over festive delicacies both sweet and savoury.
Our team at urbantouch would like to take this opportunity to wish its patrons a very happy and safe Holi.
Seize this opportunity to stack up on the seasons best colours from our stores or online and be on top of your game at those Holi parties coming up.
